Pet Sitting, Dog Treats, and more!

Fido, want a cookie?

What do you do when a pandemic strikes and you’ve been laid off from your job? Concord resident Kelly Lutes-Paxton was in that predicament in early 2020. That’s when she began baking specialty iced and decorated cookies and selling them at the Forest Farmer’s Market.

Kelly’s cookies are delicious (and she continues to bake and sell them today), but Kelly had a bigger idea in mind as she began her business. She began to think about her love for animals and began to wonder “What about cookies… for dogs?”

After mentioning this idea to friends at the Farmers Market and getting a great response, Kelly felt encouraged and began perfecting her dog-cookie recipe. She also took the steps to get her dog-treats tested and acquired a guaranteed analysis and nutrition label like you’d find on food sold in stores.

Her dog treats quickly became popular among local pets! She began selling her home-made dog treats at other vendor events as well as through social media. It was at her first vendor event that Kelly met and began partnering with the good folks at Paws of Honor - a nonprofit that raises money to cover the costs of medical care for retired police and military K-9s. A portion of the proceeds from every batch of dog cookies Kelly sells is donated to this organization.

Going on vacation?

For the past 5 years, Kelly has been a trusted pet-sitter. First, for her neighbors’ pets, and eventually turning her skills into a profitable business. Since 2020, Kelly and her husband Colin have run KC’s Pet and Farm Sitting. For $25 per visit, she will take care of your pets while you are away. She works with pet parents to learn exactly what each pet may need. A few services she provides are feeding, walking, and playing with your pets, as well as meeting special needs such as giving your pet their medications if necessary.

How long does a visit last? It varies, depending on your pet(s) and their needs. All of those details can be worked out when you call Kelly at …….to inquire more or to book a pet-sitting appointment. If you’d prefer for her to stay overnight with your pets in your home, the cost is $50 per day.

Beginning on July 1, Kelly and Colin are now able to offer pet boarding in their home in Concord as well. The cost is $50 per day, per pet family - up to three pets. (If you have more than three pets, special accommodations can be arranged.) Only one family of pets will be boarded per day, and will have freedom to make themselves at home. Before any pet services begin, Kelly requires a free meet and greet with your pets to ensure comfortability and compatibility.

Lions and Tigers and Bears… not quite.

Over the years, Kelly has pet-sat a variety of animals, from a fish, to a great dane, to an alpaca.

And, no stranger to farm life, Kelly’s family farm is home to cats, dogs, horses, a donkey, a goat, chickens, and ducks. Because of Kelly’s love for all animals, she also offers farm-sitting services as well.

In addition to her home-made dog cookies and pet and farm sitting, Kelly has also teamed up with PawTree, an organization that provides specialty pet-food seasonings, treats, and toys for your pets.

Kelly Lutes-Paxton and her family love pets. If you’d like to order a bag of her home-made dog-cookies ($5 per bag) or have a pet or farm sitting need, give Kelly a call at 434-222-2568, email her at sweetbatches20@gmail.com or reach out to her on Facebook.

She’s happy to help keep your pets happy!
