Regenerate Massage Therapy, LLC: Relax your body, unwind your mind
Don’t you just love a good massage? Or, perhaps you’ve never had one before… Either way, call Melissa Martin at Regenerate Massage Therapy, immediately!
Melissa, a Red House native and an Appomattox County High School graduate, is a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) and the owner Regenerate Massage Therapy, LLC. Her office is located in Rustburg - just about a 10 minute drive down Rt. 24 from the 460 intersection in Concord.
Melissa has been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2015, and she has been running her own practice since 2020. Before venturing into the world of massage therapy, Melissa’s previous work includes many years of experience in physical therapy. Because of that, she has a vast understanding of the inner workings of the human body. She believes in giving relief to aches and pains with all natural, non-pharmaceutical methods - like massage!
Types of Massage
Melissa offers several different massage techniques to her clients.
Swedish massage can provide full body relaxation, and can release soreness and tension in the body. “Because of my physical therapy background, I incorporate stretching and strength exercises before a massage session,” Melissa explained. “That’s also a form of deep tissue work, because even the strongest massage therapist using their elbow won’t be as effective as when you are doing your own stretching.” Melissa said that most clients chose her Swedish massage technique.
Melissa also offers the ancient art of cupping, which involves placing different sized suction cups on her client’s skin. She explained that the cupping method uses negative pressure to suction toxins (from knots or trigger points) up and out of the muscles toward the surface of the skin. Melissa then massages those toxins through the lymph system, where they will eventually be released naturally. Cupping may sound a little strange, (and maybe even a little gross when you’re thinking about toxins in your body,) but it has shown to offer great benefits (such as helping to improve circulation) when done correctly.
Reflexology (which is the application of pressure on the feet) is another ancient technique, and it’s one of Melissa’s favorites! Melissa explained that she used to suffer from painful plantar fasciitis. Because of the skills she learned in the physical therapy world, and due to her knowledge and practice of reflexology on her own feet, she has not had a flare up in over 15 years! She loves to share this knowledge with her clients!
Melissa also offers prenatal massage, which can be done as early as her client’s first trimester. She requires approval from her client’s doctors before beginning prenatal massage therapies to ensure that there are no known contraindications.
“Tech Neck,” TMJ pain, and ocular strain
Melissa finds joy in giving her clients a scalp and facial massage. She says many people don’t realize how much stress these muscles can undergo just from daily activities!
People often have ocular strain from working on computers several hours each day, and many people also grind their teeth at night, leaving their temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in the jaw area very tight and often sore.
And, nearly everyone who has a smart phone experiences tightness in their neck and shoulders due to what the medical field is now calling “Tech Neck.” Tech Neck is when a person’s neck is constantly leaning forward due to the position of their posture while looking at their cell phones or while working at a computer throughout each day.
“Poor ergonomics and the setup of a person’s work station causes it,” Melissa explained. “It’s slowly destroying society,” she said, and she’s on a mission to help her clients find relief!
A variety of tools to help you heal
Depending on her client’s needs, Melissa offers the use of hot stones, ice globes, heated eye masks, a Graston tool (which is used to really work knots out!), optional aromatherapy, moisturizing facial sheet masks, a foot stretch board and k-tape for areas of concern.
A good massage can:
Help increase circulation and drive out muscle soreness.
Help the lymphatic system rid toxins from the muscles.
Help increase the body’s range of motion.
Help boost energy levels and help battle depression.
Help reduce pregnancy-related joint swelling (when receiving prenatal massage therapy).
Help create overall balance in your physical, mental, and emotional state.
Regenerate Massage Therapy, LLC offers corporate and event packages. Melissa will bring her mobile massage chair and a privacy curtain to your corporate location. For larger groups, she also brings along another Licensed Massage Therapist to help.
In her office, she offers 30 minute sessions in the massage chair; and 30, 60, 90, or 120 minute sessions on the massage table.
Melissa offers spectacular service at extremely reasonable rates. She accepts payment by check, cash, or card at the time of each massage. (Writer’s note: It can be difficult to know who to tip, and how much to tip these days. Generally, it is common to give a massage therapist a tip for a job well done.)
Looking for a gift for someone local? Melissa also offers gift certificates in any amount. Text her at 434-329-2562, or leave a message to inquire about purchasing a gift certificate.
Melissa truly cares about helping people feel better. "I love the connection I have with my clients. I live life with them and I love to see the improvement they make when they are dedicated to it.” Melissa says the effects of a good massage can last several weeks!
The number to reach Melissa at Regenerate Massage Therapy, LLC is 434-329-2562.
